Matamoras Rod & Gun Club

College Scholarship

2017 Scholarship Winner          Past Scholarship Winners

President Keith Rasor - 2015 Recipient, Steven Gosch -  Secretary Anita Richards

The Matamoras Rod & Gun Club has a long history of supporting the youth of our community.  In 2007, the Club established a scholarship program to assist a worthy students in fulfilling their education plans.  Seniors attending the Delaware Valley School District are encouraged to visit the School's guidance counselor to obtain an application.

The Scholarship is awarded at the pleasure of the Club's Scholarship Committee.  The Committee favors students who intend to major in Conservation related subjects such as Environmental Services, Forestry, Parks and Recreation and Environmental Law.  The Committee also likes to see that the student has been involved in outdoors programs such as the Pike County Conservation School, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and similar programs.  Hobbies such as hunting, fishing, and trapping or membership in sporting clubs is also advantageous.

In 2016, after the passing of Richard Gross, a long-time club member,  conservationist, and advocate of conservation education for the areas's youth, the Club named its primary scholarship in his honor.

In addition to the standard Delaware Valley School District application, the applicants will be required to submit three written statements:

1.  Share with the committee your interests and hobbies as they relate to the outdoors, conservation and the environment.

2.  What are your career interests and goals?

3.  Tell us why you think conservation is so critical to wildlife and the environment.

The Matamoras Rod & Gun Gun Club is pleased to announce the recipient of the 2017 Richard Gross Memorial Scholarship: Laura Horowitz.

The Matamoras Rod & Gun Gun Club is pleased to announce the recipient of their second scholarship: McKenna Quinn.

McKenna is a member of the Matamoras Rod & Gun Club and has been an active participant in many of the shooting events for over 5 years.  She participates in the Cowboy Shoots, Action Pistol Matches, and the .22 CMP Shoots.  With her father by her side, she has been pheasant hunting,  deer hunting, spin-fishing, ice fishing, and flyfishing.  "These activities are exciting and thrilling for me, more so when you catch something, and I am so thankful that my father was there to teach me."  In the fall she will be attending Penn State and plans to study bio-medical engineering.

The Club congratulates both Laura and McKenna and wish them well as they begin their university studies in the fall.
